Haussman Construction Company was awarded this competitively bid
project in August 2000. Construction commenced soon after and continued
through a challenging winter construction season. The project is
on schedule for completion in October 2001.
The $3,326,925 project involved a 31,904 sq. ft. new addition and
renovations to approximately 6,166 sq. ft. of the existing 16,200
sq. ft. structure. When completed this fall, varied roof heights,
gables, tinted glass and exterior cladding will visually enhance
the training facility.
This project is notable is that portions of the work are being
done by apprenticeship students, including some of the demolition
and construction of a new entry courtyard. Because the floor of
the addition is 10 ft. lower than the existing structures
floor, the project required construction of temporary supports,
underpinning and shoring to facilitate the new foundations. The
finished structure contains spread footings ranging from as large
as 8 ft. wide and 4 ft. deep to support a 12 ft high by 1 ft 4 in.
cantilevered retaining wall, constructed of heavily reinforced poured
concrete with a masonry veneer.
Exterior Cladding consists of two inch insulated metallic grey
metal wall panels, burnished grey block with multi-colored aggregate,
and a tinted blue glass storefront glazing system on all four sides.
Four inch insulated metal roof panels to the structure. New metal
siding is covering the existing portion of the building to facilitate
a feeling of consistency.
In addition to the variety of exterior materials, the structures
varying rooflines add depth and visual clarity to the building,
making it not just suitable for the business at hand, but an aesthetically
pleasing facility as well.
